I’m hopping a Jet plane today, just me and Henry. I’m excited to see my friend, but I already miss my family. That’s how it goes, I guess. I’ll be really happy to see them when I get home on Monday.
I did this trip with Lorelei two years ago. It was rough to say the least. She was mobile and we were still nursing and she bit me HARD on the flight there and even harder on the flight back. No bueno. I have an hour flight to Atlanta and then a five hour flight to Portland. It’s worth it, though!
I learned a thing or two about my last flight with an infant.
Check yo bag. Yes, it’s a carry-on and I could wrangle it through the airport, but it’s hard and holding and entertaining a baby for nine hours is hard enough. The baby weighs 12 pounds, he is my carry on and the diaper bag is my personal item.
Bring snacks and more snacks. I remember starving the last flight. I had brought what seemed like a normal amount of “just in case I get hungry” snacks, but nursing and boredom make you eat, so make sure they’re healthy too.
If you can, bring the stroller. I was all natural mama and didn’t think I would need the stroller last time because I had my Moby, but guess what? It sure would have made things easier (re: more fun) had I brought it. Btw, Delta let’s you check a car seat AND a stroller, some flights only let you check one or the other.
I’m sure I’ll come up with more after today’s flight. I’ll get in at 10p, Pacific time, so 1a here… :o)
