My mom is here this week as is my sister-in-law Trisha. We all gathered at the grandparents house for a 4th of July celebration. Lorelei got to meet her cousins for the first time, Maddox and Madison. Maddox is about 18 months and Madison is about 1 1/2 months.
Lorelei was so interested in Madison and Nora and Noah had fun playing with Maddox. We ate yummy hamburgers and hot dogs and apple pie and later we had smores. We spent the day relaxing and playing with the kiddos, enjoying each other’s company and the beautiful North Carolina weather.
This morning Jason, my mom, me and the kids checked out the Franklin 4th of July parade. After hanging out with Jason’s family, we headed into town to watch the fireworks which were so crowded that we all stood in a McDonald’s parking lot with 100 of our closest friends to watch the show. The kids fell asleep in the car on the way home and it was a perfect end to a lovely day. During the ride home I wondered aloud at how this was our first 4th away from Lakeland and I realized that I don’t miss it. I don’t have this yearning to return there or think often on how Lakeland is so much better than Franklin. I’m enjoying this small town life with Jason and the kids and getting to spend more time with Jason’s family. Although it doesn’t quite feel like home yet, I know it will in time.
