I took a wee break from all of my challenges and only participated in two short ones this past month. I really enjoyed the first one because it was focused on “what this pose unlocks for you”. I don’t enjoy all yoga poses and I’m still learning and my body is still getting stronger and more flexible, so most of my poses were from a place of frustration. Some poses, however are sweet release. I actually was one of the winners for that challenge; #masterkeymay. It’s fun to win and I received a sodalite bracelet. The second challenge was focused on Sun Salutation and the poses within that vinyasa. Very simple. I’ve started school, so I’m not doing any challenges this month, however I do jump in occasionally with a video or two. Perhaps I’ll share those with you here next month.
It’s MAY?! In March I took on a lot of challenges. I always end up dropping one usually because I don’t like the hosts, but the challenges were pretty intense, so I teetered off a bit. I then did a Journey to Handstand challenge and a Lotus challenge in April which I enjoyed. I took a little break from Yoga the last week or so. I’m only doing a short challenge again this month and it’s more introspective than asana focused. I like those the best. I’m continuing to make progress, but have moved away from a daily practice.
I had to do a lot of inside yoga this month due to inclement weather, but lots of progress was made and a few new poses tried. I’m dealing with a lot of “almosts” in my poses and I’ve recently stopped going to the gym and switched to the new yoga studio downtown. Her studio is more Vinyasa Flow style and will help with cardio as well. She has a foundational class and what I would call a power class. I hope her studio will continue to grow and she’ll be able to expand her classes. Franklin needs more yoga!
This is what we woke up to last week not once, but twice. It was beautiful. We got between 3-4 inches both times which is enough to be stuck at home and play in during the morning.
The kids were off all week due to “inclement weather and secondary road conditions”. Our first winter when the kids would have snow days I was a little appalled at how easily they called off school, but now I’m used to it and have acclimated. We seem to get at least one Winter Break 2.0 per year. It was actually a nice break from our routine. :)
The first few days were more ice than snow. It would fall then melt a little and fall again and freeze, so Jason was working from home for a few days. It finally snowed a little more on Thursday and again Friday late. I wish it would have just dumped a load and been done, but the weather is so silly sometimes.
Jason and I did some acroyoga in January! We had so much fun. It is quite the trust exercise and team building experience. I did three challenges this month including the acroyoga one and I think that’s my limit. I had a good time working on my inversions and doing some interesting variations. I’ve started doing more videos and hyperlapsed videos, which is fun. Find me on instagram (dgreb) to see them!

Jason’s department decided to meet at a restaurant in Downtown Asheville Friday night for an evening that included their significant others since their annual Christmas party is for employees only. Jason’s sister graciously agreed to watch the kiddos so we could stay overnight as a little getaway. It was wonderful!
After dinner at Pack’s Tavern we headed over to The Book Exchange in Battery Park. There we had truffles, coffee and adult conversation! Yay! It is a great place filled with used books and a cozy atmosphere.
We stayed at Aloft right in Downtown and it was awesome. The room, though a bit small, was ultra modern and clean and the bed was comfy. It was very colorful, with these neat fabric boxes over the hallway lights.
When we got to the hotel and started unpacking, look what I found! I bought this game two Christmas’ ago and then promptly lost it. I had brought it down to Florida to play and blamed my aunt for taking it, though she swears she didn’t. Ha! It was funny to find it after all this time.
We stopped at Green Sage in the morning for breakfast. Jason humored me because it is an interesting place where tempeh and tofu are popular menu selections. We had real eggs and sausage, however and it was delicious!
We had a great time in Asheville and returned to Franklin refreshed and happy.
I promised you some inversions and I think I delivered! December was a good month of progress. There were a couple of poses I’ve never done which kept it interesting and a few poses towards the end were difficult, but I pushed through and am glad I did. I gained a lot of strength and have decided to do three month-long challenges in January. I think that’s my limit. One is a regular challenge coupled with some internal work, the second is an inversion challenge and the third is Acroyoga! Acroyoga is a partnership yoga, so you’ll see Jason in some of my pics for next month. :)
We did Christmas late this year. In recent Christmas’ we have opened presents without Noah and Nora on Christmas day and then let them open their gifts when they got home. That kinda sucks all around, so we waited this year. It was Patrick’s turn to have them for Christmas day, so they returned home the day after and we ended up celebrating on Saturday. We hadn’t done it that way yet and I have to say I enjoyed it the most. Probably because my mom, aunt and uncle were there as well.
After eating Christmas lunch we set up foursquare downstairs. My family loves to play those types of games on holidays and I love it! We are super competitive and Noah and Nora got “schooled” in the art of foursquare, for sure. :) They enjoyed it though.
My aunt and uncle have taken up jump rope for cardio. They got all of the kids jump ropes for Christmas and demonstrated their skills for them. It was neat to see their tricks and quite impressive.
It was a great visit. It always makes Christmas special to have family together.
