My little boy, Henry, is absolutely adorable. You’d think that with him being my fourth child there might be a little bit of a “been there, done that” feeling for things like, rolling over and whatnot, but no, it’s still exciting. It seems so neat to me because each of the kids have such different personalities and have reached their milestones in their own time and in their own ways. I love seeing Henry’s personality emerge as he gets older.
He was and still is a sleeper. He’s still at the high end of the sleeping range. I kept waiting for him to give me an all-nighter, but so far, that hasn’t happened. He does still wake up a time or two (sometimes three) during the night to eat, but that’s to be expected with nursing. It’s been fun to see him become more alert and smiley. He began to coo and make noises a month or two ago. He loves talking to his daddy and Noah got him to laugh for the first time just last night. It reminds me of when Nora (my second) had her first laugh, also because of Noah. Such special memories.
Henry is now starting to grab for anything within reach. Toys, hair, my dinner plate. I can tell, though, he’s a very sweet boy. His cry is quiet and so pitiful and he’s the kind of baby that you can lay down awake when it’s time for a nap and he’ll go right to dreamland most of the time. Such a blessing since Lorelei was NOT an easy sleeper!
The best thing about being a seasoned mom is knowing when things are hard, that they won’t last forever. Knowing that one day very soon, Henry will be walking and talking and an integral part of the family. I also know to fully enjoy these baby years because they’ll fly by so quickly. The smell of his skin, the feeling of holding him and having him love us unconditionally before the backtalk starts and he learns the word, “no”. I’m a little sad that Henry is our last baby, but also excited about what lies ahead. I definitely feel like our family is just the right size.
